Comic News:
Top Cow Covers ACTOR
By Brian Jacks

04.22.03

Top Cow Productions and master illustrator Jim Silke will join forces in July for the creation of a Magdalena #1 variant cover to benefit ACTOR Comic Fund, the company announced today.

Top Cow's new Magdalena series deals with the latest in the line of the Magdalena warriors. For 2000 years, the Magdalenas have battled in secret, protecting humanity from supernatural menaces of all types. Now Patience, a young and untrained beauty, must take on the role of being this generation's protector, perhaps even before she's ready.

"I'm very happy that Top Cow is able to give back to the writers and artists who helped create this industry. I've met a lot of these guys over the years and when Jim McLauchlin pitched this to me it was a two second decision," said Top Cow President Matt Hawkins.

"It's a pleasure to be involved with a program that is designed to help the men and women who have inspired me all my life," commented Jim Silke.

"It isn't every day you get to marry the muscle of a top-notch comic publisher with the artistry and majesty of an illustrator as talented as Jim Silke," noted Jim McLauchlin, President of ACTOR. "We're very pleased with the end result, and are hopeful we'll be able to raise some money for a great cause."

The issue will be available at comic book stores everywhere in July.

ACTOR (A Commitment To Our Roots) Comic Fund is the first-ever federally chartered not-for-profit corporation dedicated strictly to helping comic book creators in need. ACTOR creates a financial safety net for yesterdays' creators who may need emergency medical aid, financial support for essentials of life, and entrée back into paying work.
