Comic News:
About Comics Chooses Diamond
By Brian Jacks

04.04.03

About Comics has selected Diamond Book Distributors as the exclusive U.S. and non-exclusive worldwide distributor of English-language editions of its graphic novels and books to the bookstore, library, warehouse, and mass merchandise markets.

Founded in 1998, About Comics is a publishing imprint created by Nat Gertler, who has written comics for dozens of publishers big and small. The About Comics line has evolved from publishing just Eisner-nominated Gertler’s own fiction – such as the critically acclaimed The Factor – to including a range of work by some of the most respected names in comics. Most notable in the About Comics catalog are Panel One and Panel Two, volumes of annotated comic book scripts from professionals, both of which are renowned throughout the industry for their insight into the process of writing comics.

“Nat's enthusiasm for comics is infectious and comes through in every project he publishes,” said Diamond Vice President of Purchasing Bill Schanes. “His approach results not only in fine stories, but also enlightening and educational books that interested newcomers will appreciate.”

“Some of the top creators in the business, such as Kurt Busiek and Scott McCloud, are entrusting me to bring their work to the public. To treat that work right I need a distributor that truly understands comics, so who better than Diamond?,” explained Gertler. “Diamond’s expertise and ability to get the books onto store shelves and into libraries where readers can find them will not only increase sales on the books we’re already doing, it will create opportunities to publish a wider array of titles.”

Diamond’s Sales Team will begin working with bookstores, book wholesalers, warehouse clubs, mass merchandisers, and libraries to place About Comics titles across the country. “We look forward to putting Nat's hard work in front of as broad an audience as possible.” Schanes added.
