Welcome to Slushfactory.com's weekly feature, "The Pitch," where creators "pitch" you their newest, upcoming project in hopes of persuading you to give it a chance.
Pitching last week: Phil Hester
THE PITCH: One creator, Six questions.
Your name: Mike Avon Oeming
Title of book: Parliament of Justice
Publisher of book: Image Comics
Ongoing or miniseries: One-shot
Other collaborators on book: Neil Vokes, best known for Ninjack and Superman Adventures
Expected on-sale date: March 2003
(1) Fill in the blanks: My name is Mike Avon Oeming and I am best known for...Powers, from Image Comics with Brian Bendis.
(2) What is your book about?
Parliament is a dark take on Batman, one they could never do, even in Elseworlds. While I love the idea of vigilante heroes, there has to be some serious consequence to living that kind of life and thats what this book is about.
(3) What is the origin of this project, secret or otherwise? Give us the origin story.
I saw a picture of an old man at a turn-of-the-century costume party, which is what I based the Parliament on. I saw this guy with this long kookie hat on and the story came right into my head in about a min or so.
(4) Aside from the promise of tall dollars, what drew you to this project? Why now?
Well, it's not money, as there no guarantee this will sell well, and it's a royalty-based book. Neil and I did this to work together and for the love of the project.
