Comic News: Joe Gains New Writer, Micronauts Gets New Publisher By Brian Jacks
08.14.03
Image Comics has announced two major changes in the publication of G.I. JOE and MICRONAUTS.
As many know, Joshua Blaylock will be leaving G.I. JOE as the main writer after issue twenty-five. Ever since this was announced months ago, the fan community has been anticipating news of his replacement and now, Blaylock is proud to announce that newcomer Brandon Jerwa will be taking the reins. Brandon, whose work debuts in G.I. JOE: FRONTLINE issues #11-#14, is working closely with Blaylock, to ensure a smooth transition into issue 26. Hot on the heels of the much anticipated SILENT ISSUE (#21) and the RETURN OF SERPENTOR story arc (issues 22-25), fans are anxiously awaiting to see what the new scribe will bring to the series.

Blaylock will continue to oversee all plot lines and feels extremely confident about Brandon Jerwa’s skills as a writer.
“Finding the right person for this book wasn’t easy," Blaylock confessed. "Not only do you have to be a great writer, but you have to understand the vast library of G.I.JOE characters, vehicles, and settings. As his weekly G.I.JOE: FRONT LINE (#11-14) arc proves, I’ve found the PERFECT man for the job.”
Jerwa himself is excited to bring a fresh perspective to G.I. JOE, combining creative action with character integrity.
"I couldn't be more thrilled by this opportunity," he said. "For a long-time G.I. JOE fan like myself, this is really a dream come true! I've had a lot of time to think about these characters and what I want to do with them, and I've got some real surprises in store for everyone!"
Brandon Badeaux will continue in his role as lead penciller for the G.I. JOE series and is looking forward to working with Jerwa.
“I really can't wait to work with Brandon. I think that his style of writing thus far is as similar to Josh's as I could imagine, and he really seems to have a grasp on the enormous library of charcters in the G.I. JOE universe, which is always great to feed off and gives me the ability to play more with the acting and personalities of even the minor characters.”
G.I. JOE #26 will be available for order in the November issue of Previews and will go on sale in January 2004.
Additionally, Image has announced a pause in publication of the ongoing MICRONAUTS comic book series, taking place after issue #11 of the “Invasion” story arc. The Micronauts comic book property will be transitioned to a new publisher, to be announced a in few weeks. Look for more details in the announcement, such as the return of one of the original artists from the Marvel series of the 1980s.
MICRONAUTS #11 is available for order now in the July issue of Previews and will go on sale in September.
