CrossGen is already an industry leader with its unique approach
to doing comics and its company policy to have its
talent working "in house". They've made
great strides to return the entire comics industry
to, well ...comic book readers and
not those interested in buying a book to slab it.
Now they're making it even easier to read their
titles with two new Compendia books: Forge and
Edge. The
affordable ($9.95 US) Forge and Edge are 200
plus pages, full-color, standard TPB
size, and feature the same production quality as
CrossGen's monthly comics line and will be housed
inside a card stock cover. Based
on the model used for European comics
and manga in Japan, these are the types of books
that readers have been asking for, only these are in
full color.
Forge and Edge will initially be
90-120 days behind current CrossGen titles and also
initially won't contain materials previously unseen
by regular CrossGen readers. Forge #1 is on
sale April 10 and Edge #1 is on sale April 24. Then
Forge
and
Edge will continue to ship the second and
last week of every month. For the first year each
Compendia will contain at least eight stories,
covering five series and

increasing
to six in 2003, to include
The Path and
Way
of the Rat. The appropriate
CrossGen
Chronicles stories that fit within the scope and
sequence of storyline for a particular title will
also be included in certain Compendia.
"Readers
of Forge and Edge will be getting a
package that includes about eight comics, a $23.60
value, for one low price," said Director of
Corporate Communications, Ian M. Feller. "These
are perfect for new readers wanting to give CrossGen
a try."
"
Forge #1 contains:
Crux #1-#3,
Meridian
#15,
Negation Prequel,
Sojourn Prequel
and #1,
a
preview of The Path.
Edge
#1 contains:
The First #8-#10,
Mystic
#15 and #16,
Ruse #1,
Scion #15,
and
Sigil #15," says
Feller .
"Each 'in-process' series contains a
significantly expanded 'Story So Far' description
for new readers
making it easy for them to jump onboard.
Additionally, in the next
20-30
days CrossGen will unveil a mass-market initiative
that is geared to drive a great many new customers
to comic stores. Compendia have been designed to
appeal to these mainstream buyers.
This initiative is huge! Greater than anything
that's ever been tried before. And you know
what? It's gonna work. Just wait and see."
Feller goes on to explain, "Compendia are not
about how many comics can we sell, but how many new
readers can we bring into the comic industry.
Compendia provide a new audience a cost-efficient
way to get a lot of comics for a little money. With
serialization and continued stories that entice them
to come back to the comic shop twice a month at the
very least for the next editions - just like veteran
comics customers do every Wednesday. A 200 plus page
paperback for $9.95 is a product these mainstream
buyers understand, can afford, and will purchase.
It's time for the comic industry to stop selling to
a few readers for a high price and start selling to
a lot of readers for less money."
CrossGen's new Compendia will begin in April.
Forge
#1 is on sale April 10 and
Edge #1 on sale
April 24. Installments will be added monthly in the
series that fits right on the bookshelf.
